Following some missed opportunities, we hear Pinterest may finally have the expansion space it desperately needs. (If there’s a recipe for such an occasion, we know what website will let us know.)
The DIY-friendly social media hub is vying for 270 Brannan, SKS’ 189k SF building coming to SoMa, industry sources tell us. There’s another possible contender, however: Splunk, a data giant led by some big wigs from Disney and HP that’s HQ’d nearby at 250 Brannan. The seven-story, 65-foot building designed by Pfau Long Architecture will have lots of bike parking and a central glass roof atrium. (Rendering, above, courtesy steelblue.) Pinterest’s 140-plus employees work out of a SoMa warehouse complex at 7th and Brannan–the “Pinstitute,” as they call it. (Please tell us their security guards are called the Safety Pinstitute.)
The company raised $225M last fall and plans to cash in big on a promoted pins model. We broke the news in December about it needing 200k SF fast this year. It wouldn’t be the first time a tenant inked a full building lease in the ‘hood; Brannan has been red hot when it comes to tech interest, withDropbox just deciding to take all of 333 Brannan and the building next door at 345 Brannan. Pinterest was also seriously eyeing 333, we hear, but the cloud company moved in quicker. (At least it might still get the “Brannan”part of the address it wanted.) CBRE, which reps Pinterest, had no comment, and SKS didn’t respond to a request for comment.
